This Spark tests a single delicious inversion: in a world where the local bureaucracy classifies warmth as aggression, the player must manage dwindling Goodwill tokens by making promises to suspicious NPCs — but every sincere, generous offer triggers the Misread Engine, escalating the threat level and draining resources faster. The toy asks whether players will adapt by being strategically cold, accidentally stumble into absurd escalation spirals, or discover that the *right* kind of hollow, uncommitted non-promise is the only currency that actually works. The core tension is legible in thirty seconds and unsettling for the full five minutes.

If a player instinctively tries to de-escalate by being kinder and more generous, then the situation measurably worsens in ways that feel both logical and completely insane.

Success Criteria

  • Player makes at least two sincere promises before realizing they are mechanically punished for doing so
  • Player audibly or textually expresses confusion followed by laughter when kindness backfires
  • Player experiments with deliberately cold or non-committal language to test if it helps

Without sufficient time to develop real relationships, make multiple meaningful choices, or discover emergent strategies, this becomes a narrative gotcha rather than a playable system. The hypothesis needs a longer, messier play space to breathe, or it needs to be compressed into a single, crystalline decision where the inversion lands with real weight.
